Fishing at Scofield Reservoir for Tiger Trout

🌟 Blue Ribbon Fishery Status Restored

🎣 Scofield Reservoir Is Back on Top: A Blue Ribbon Fishing Destination Again!

If you’re looking for an incredible Utah fishing experience, Scofield Reservoir should be high on your list—especially now that it’s officially regained its Blue Ribbon Fishery status!

What Makes Scofield So Special?

Nestled in the beautiful mountains of Carbon County, Scofield Reservoir is known for its scenic beauty and excellent fishing. Anglers come here year-round to chase species like rainbow, cutthroat, and tiger trout, and more recently, tiger muskie and wiper (a hybrid striped bass). The lake offers fantastic fishing from both the shore and boat, with ice fishing being a favorite during the colder months.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Trout limits: Up to 4 per day (but only 2 can be cutthroat or tiger trout, and only 1 over 22″).
  • Big predators: Tiger muskie and wiper were introduced to help control Utah chubs and add a thrill for sport anglers.
  • Great amenities: Campgrounds, boat ramps, fish cleaning stations, and plenty of space to spread out.

A Comeback Story Worth Telling

Scofield had lost its Blue Ribbon status in 2017 due to an overgrowth of Utah chubs—an invasive species that threw the lake’s ecosystem off balance. But the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources stepped in with a smart management plan, introducing fish that would naturally help reduce the chub population.

The result? A stronger, healthier, and more fun fishery for everyone. And as of late 2024, Scofield is officially a Blue Ribbon Fishery once again, thanks to the decision by the state’s Blue Ribbon Fisheries Advisory Council.

Why Blue Ribbon Status Matters

This prestigious label isn’t just for bragging rights—it means Scofield offers:

  • Top-notch fishing
  • Healthy fish populations
  • Great access and amenities
  • Support for local communities and tourism

In fact, fishing in Utah is big business. In 2023 alone, Utah’s 418,000 licensed anglers contributed over $1 billion to the state economy, supporting nearly 18,000 jobs!
